Do you care where they come from?

Today we learnt that British women to be ranked in the top 50 in the world at the same time for more than 25 years. World Number 47 Heather Watson born in Guernsey to a Papua New Guinean mother and has trained at a Tennis Academy in Florida, USA since she was 12. World Number 50 Laura Robson born in Melbourne, Australia then moved to Singapore when she was 18 months old and then to the United Kingdom when she was six but after that she was trained by the Lawn Tennis Association at the National Tennis Centre.

What I am getting at here is that although we should be proud of the performances so far as they are both possible future stars of the sport of tennis, there are both different examples of the most common thing is modern sport.  One is British who went abroad to learn her sport then other is a foreign nation who came to to this country to learn this sport and adopted the nationality, "Multi-National Sport Stars"

Before the Olympics a few newspapers where going on about "Plastic Brits", foreign nationals representing the UK, but after the glorious two week love affair this country had with the Olympic and they have forgotten all about that and is still living off the euphoric high.  But since Immigration had a part to play in at least 24 of the 65 medals claimed by Team GB, should you care?

The Race That Will Not Stop

      After concerns a plenty about the readiness of the Delhi Commonwealth Games, in general it has gone better than I would of thought.  The swimmers getting a stomach bug being called 'Delhi Belly', the lack of crowds and then crowds which don't know when to be silent.  The problems on the whole have been minor, it was very disappointing to watch the cycling road races happen without many spectators watching it due to over zealous road blockages.  The daft mistake was the 10m diving board which was found to be 70cm to high.  But for me there has been one race which has ultimately grabbed my attention, the women's 100m race.  Just when we though it was all over and it had had more than its fair share of the limelight, it decided it wanted some more.

The Commonwealth Games Problem

      Last night England and Scotland's Commonwealth Games teams stated that they are concerned the poor quality of the athletes village in Delhi may put the whole event in doubt.  Scottish officials found their original accommodation to be "unsafe and unfit for human habitation" and England are "optimistic" they will compete, but say urgent work is needed before the Games begin on 3 October.   But this is not first time that the go ahead of the Delhi Commonwealth Games have been questioned.  There have been multiple reports on the sub-standard infrastructure, athletes village and and questions about the security and safety of the participants and their teams has also been thrown into the mixer.  Even the organisers have said "have got two days to do what's probably going to take about two weeks".   My questions are should of this edition of the Commonwealth Games been moved from Delhi?  If so when should it have be switched and where would it go?

The Sunday Sport Round-Up

Another fantastic weekend of sport for our viewing.   A very entertaining derby will let Ferguson forget about Liverpool and look towards Man City and Chelsea, more controversy in cricket as coach and captain speak out, a Brit wins a sprinting jersey in the Vuelta, the Great North provides plenty of shocks and performances and snooker unleashes one of it new speed formats. But on a slightly more disappointing note another shooting in Delhi puts more doubts and questions about the Commonwealth Game.
