Russell v Lawro - Week 2

Last week I challenged myself to see if I could compete with Mark Lawrenson in predicting the results of the weekend games of the Premiership.  After a poor performance in week one, with myself only getting 2 results right and no correct scores, getting nothing right on Saturday, compared to Lawro's 7 results right with two of them being correct scores,  I need do much better this week. Also here are the scores from last week.

Lawro's predictions My Predictions Actual results
QPR 1 – 1 Tottenham QPR 0 – 3 Tottenham QPR 0 – 0 Tottenham
Aston Villa 2 – 1 Southampton  Aston Villa 1 – 1 Southampton  Aston Villa 0 – 1 Southampton
Everton 2 – 0 Swansea Everton 2 – 1 Swansea Everton 0 – 0 Swansea
Fulham 1 – 1 Wigan Fulham 2 – 1 Wigan Fulham 1 – 1 Wigan
Norwich 1 – 1 Newcastle Norwich 2 – 1 Newcastle Norwich 0 – 0 Newcastle
Reading 2 – 1 West Brom Reading 1 – 2 West Brom Reading 3 – 2 West Brom
Stoke 1 – 2 Chelsea Stoke 1 – 0 Chelsea Stoke 0 – 4 Chelsea
Sunderland 2 – 1 West Ham Sunderland 0 – 0 West Ham Sunderland 3 – 0 West Ham
Man Utd 2 – 1 Liverpool Man Utd 3 – 2 Liverpool Man Utd 2 – 1 Liverpool
Arsenal 1 – 1 Man City Arsenal 1 – 2 Man City Arsenal 0 – 2 Man City

Liverpool v Norwich (15:00 GMT)
Although Liverpool lost last Sunday to Man United they were the better team in the last 20 minutes of the match and they haven't failed to score in the last 9 games.  Norwich on the other hand played in a boring scoreless draw with a struggling Newcastle, the only win they have had in the last 7 games was their FA Cup win against Peterborough.  The new combination of Suarez and Sturridge will be too much for Norwich.
Lawro's Prediction: 2-0    My Prediction: 3-1

Man City v Fulham (15:00 GMT)
Man City coasted to a win at Arsenal after an early red card for Arsenal and will be boosted by the fact that Kompany has had his suspension rescinded. Fulham drew with Wigan and are looking increasingly reliant on Dimitar Berbatov, when he plays well and gets involved in the match Fulham look a decent side but I don't think they will poss much more threat than 10 man Arsenal.
Lawro's Prediction: 3-0    My Prediction: 4-1

Newcastle v Reading (15:00 GMT)
The bore draw last week for Newcastle is one of only 7 points they have picked up the last 10 games they have been missing key players and the departure of Ba would of hurt more if the shock of Coloccini asking to leave hadn't kicked in.  Reading are in their best form of the season but they were lucky that West Brom took the foot off the peddle last week. Reading might sneak this but I think a draw is more likely.

Lawro's Prediction: 2-0    My Prediction: 1-1

Swansea v Stoke (15:00 GMT)
A draw at Everton last week is a good result for Swansea but they might hold a bit back in the match with the League Cup match against Chelsea midweek to think about.  Stoke have only conceded 24 goals so far this season but 10 of those have come in the last 3 games, if they sort their defense out they will stop the slide down the table that they have been going on in the last few games.  I see a low scoring draw.
Lawro's Prediction: 1-2    My Prediction: 1-1

West Ham v QPR (15:00 GMT)
West Ham were dismantled by Sunderland last weekend but saved some grace in the match against Man United with a spirited display by some fringe team players.  QPR have completed their first of many signings and it is exactly what they needed, they have kept clean sheets the last 3 games but have really struggled to score goals.  Remy looks to start and think he will bag a debut goal in an good match.
Lawro's Prediction: 1-2    My Prediction: 2-2

Wigan v Sunderland (15:00 GMT)
Both of these teams played midweek in the FA Cup with differing results, Wigan built on good draw with Fulham seeing of Bournemouth but Sunderland failed to build on the 3-0 win against West Ham losing in normal time to struggling Bolton.  My general dislike of Wigan is none to most of my friends but sadly I do think they will get something out of this game.
Lawro's Prediction: 2-1    My Prediction: 1-1

West Brom v Aston Villa (17:30 GMT)
West Brom their third league game in a row last weekend but there were good signs as well, Romelu Lukaku looked a real threat but they turned off too soon and paid the price.  They followed that up with a poor game against QPR midweek.  Villa have been shocking since the win against Liverpool and they might very will be concentrating on turning around the League Cup match against Bradford. Albion back to their best I Think.
Lawro's Prediction: 2-0    My Prediction: 3-1

Chelsea v Arsenal (13:30 GMT)
This Sunday has been dubbed "Payback" and Arsenal will look to continue Chelsea's poor run of form at home under Benitez, having only beaten Aston Villa.  The match against City was over after 20 minutes and the midweek match against Swansea is more of a reflection of Arsenal's form.   Chelsea have been hit and miss recently and will look to Ba or Torres to hit some form to change Chelsea's current woes.
Lawro's Prediction: 1-1    My Prediction:  2-2

Tottenham v Man Utd (16:00 GMT)
In the last ten games these two teams have picked up the most points, United with 28 and Spurs with 22.  Spurs have looked good recently with Bale on form but they struggled to create chances against QPR and will miss Sando even though they have Parker back.  United Have more points after 22 games this season than they ever have had in the Premier League and with RVP and Rooney on for I think they will be too much for Spurs
Lawro's Prediction: 1-1    My Prediction: 1-3

Southampton v Everton (20:00 GMT)
After a very good point against Chelsea few would of predicted Friday's news.  The sacking of Adkins and the immediate hiring of his replacement Pochettino, the man who Owen dived over in the 2002 World Cup, has had a polarising affect on the fans.  There will only be a few who understand this decision most will think that is retarded but it has happened now so if the fans don't get behind the team they should take some of the blame as well.  Everton's only loss in the last 10 league games was to Chelsea and they are one of the few teams I would want for my first game.
Lawro's Prediction: 0-2    My Prediction: 1-3
