NFL Week Four Review

Week 4 was another extremely interesting week in NFL.  Week 4 is the start of the bye period where teams get a week off at some point.  The Kansas City Chiefs thanks to their bye are the only team left with 100% record after the Steelers and Bears both lost in low scoring games.  No exciting overtime games this week but there was a 59 yard time expiring winning field goal for the Jaguars against the Colts.  Seattle and Chicago didn't manage touchdowns in their defensive matches against St Louis and New York Giants respectively.  On Monday Night Football special teams helped Tom Brady, on an off day, to his 100 win as he fastest quarterback ever to 100 wins in the Super Bowl era.  And even more amazingly my team the Browns won a game after losing the all first three games by less than 7 points.

This weekend I once again managed to watch three games, the Jets at Buffalo, Indianapolis at Jacksonville and New England at Miami.

It was a cold and wet day in Buffalo but that didn't stop the fans coming and cheering on their side, hoping the Bills would pick up the first win of the season.  After a good kickoff return the Jets then went 63 yards in 9 plays for a 1 yard TD rush for Ladainian Tomlinson, L.T. rushed 53 of 63 yards of the drive.  The drive only took just over 4 mins and then the Bills muffed the kickoff to hand the ball to Jets on the Buffalo 41, but after the first five minutes they probably new they would end the day on 0-4.
The Jets kept their defensive record of not conceding any point in the first quarter as they led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.  During the second and third quarters both sides 6 drives but that is where the similarities end, the Jets scored with 5, 4 TD's and 1 FG, of those drives the only one they didn't convert into points was when they got the ball with 33 seconds on the clock at the end of the second quarter.
Where as the Bills only go into Jets territory on one out of the six drives, they score a touchdown on it but they fumbled one and had to punt the other four.  The Jets where 38-7 up by the end of the third quarter and lost a little bit of discipline in the fourth quarter giving up 30 yards from 4 penalties.
But it was the performances of L.T. and Dustin Keller that won them this match.  L.T. had his best game in nearly two years, rushing for 133 yards and two touchdowns, he rushed over 100 yards for the 47th time in his career, but it was the first time since October 26th 2008.  Keller had two touchdown catches 1:33 apart in the third quarter which took them to 31-7 up and took the game away from the Bills

This game was started in imperious fashion by the Colts the first drive going in for a touchdown after 11 plays 69 yards and 7 minutes on the clock, Payton Manning completing all his passes on this drive.  But the Jaguars didn't let that get to them they came straight back and scored with their first drive the only difference between the opening drives was that Manning passed and Gerrard rushed including a 25 yard rush by himself for the touchdown.
The opening half saw four drives by both sides and a touch down each in each quarter it was pretty even game on the score board as well as the field.  Both sides continued in a similar fashion for the second half but Mannings first interception of the season when Eldridge dropped it on the Jaguars 2 yard line, it handed the the initiative to the Jaguars.  It was the first time in 26 attempts that Colts failed to score when they got to the red-zone.
The Jaguars had a 28-21 lead going into the two minute warning in the fourth quarter but the Colts got themselves level with 48 seconds on the clock and would have thought that they had forced this match into overtime.  But a career longest 59 yard field goal by Josh Scobee as time expired stunned the colts and handed a win to the Jacksonville Jaguars and putting them both on 2-2 for the season.

The Monday night match started with strong defences on both sides with the first three drives of the game only picking up one first down.  Then Miami quarterback Henne outshone his more illustrious counterpart Brady, he threw a 19 yard TD to Bess and looked good in the first quarter until his inexperience got to him he threw an interception when he should of thrown it out.  It was a play-action play which New England had looked poor against this season but they had obvious trained against it.
The Dolphins defence was good throughout the first half only allowing the patriots two field goals, one of which nearly didn't happen.  AS the end of the first half was coming there was almost a fake spike touchdown pass from Brady to Moss, Dan Marino esc, but Moss could n't hold onto it.  Moss didn't get a single reception in this match the first time in 51 games.  Miami led 7-6 at half time and looked good for it but as the second half started the Patriots special teams came to life.
Tate returned the kickoff for an 103 yard tourchdown, then they blocked a punt and scored on that drive and in the third quarter the Patriots outscored the Dolphins 21-7.  But the special teams weren't finished there,  Chung blocked a 53 yard field goal attempt and Arrington recovered it for a 35 yard touchdown.  Just when Miami thought it could get any worse the Patriots intercepted Henne for a third time and Chung returned it for 51 yard touchdown.
This events made the Patriots first NFL team ever to score pass, run, interception return, Kickoff return & blocked field goal return TDs in a single game.
